  "Supplement to Sprague Families in America", by Dr. Warren Vincent Sprague, page 193. Abiel Sprague resided in Baileyville, ME; he was a farmer. 1813. Abiel Sprague, Jr. and wife Leah sold land in Charlotte Co., NB. Abial Sprague 3d was a huge man with black hair which he wore very long. At one time he lived at Mt. Tom in Charlotte and was attacked by an Indian while working in his garden. This Indian had seized him by the hair and attempted to take his scalp, but Abiel struck him in the temple and crushed his skull. He left him lying there until the next morning when the chief of the tribe came for the body. He told Sprague, "No blame white man, me want body.". A few years later a young fellow from the tribe attacked him. Abiel shoved this fellow's head between the rails of a fence and fastened them down and left him there several hours. "A Genealogy of the Spragues of Baileyville, ME: A Revision of the Spragues in the History of Early Baileyville", by Dr. Albert W. Bailey. Abial-3 was one of the first town organizers of Princeton and moderator. Very active in town affairs. He was at times mixed up or mistaken for his cousin (nephew), Abial. He lived at Sprague Falls, Cooper and South Princeton.
