MONTPELIER George Arthur Megrath, 67, of Strattanville,Pa., died in his home on July 20, 2006.
Born on Sept. 20, 1938, in Montpelier, he was the son ofthe late Harold A. Megrath and Mabel Sullivan Megrath.
In November of 1958 he married Mildred Muzzy. They laterdivorced.George was a heavy equipment operator for over 25 years andlater was the owner and operator of Megrath Trucking. Heworked on several interstate projects throughout theNortheast including the Northway in New York and Interstate89 in Vermont, where he was the operator of the world'slargest bucket loader at the time.He was of the Catholic faith and was a member of theClarion Eagles and the Operating Engineers of Springfield,Mass. George was an avid auto race fan and enjoyedgardening and cats.
He is survived by his companion, Cheryl Shelhammer; threesons, Gary and his wife Kathy of Middlesex, Steven and hiswife Suzanne of East Montpelier, and Harold and his wifeAmber of East Montpelier; four daughters, Cindy and herhusband Joe Gerencser of Ohio, Sandra and her husband JoeLockerby of Berlin, Debbie and her husband Jack Gabel ofOhio, and Shelia Lowe of East Barre; and 11 grandchildren.He is also survived by one brother, James Megrath ofMontpelier, and one sister, Barbara and her husband JimSimpson of Colorado Springs, Colo.; sister-in-law RitaMegrath and a nephew, Evan, from San Jose, Calif., andseveral nieces and nephews from Colorado Springs, Colo.
He was predeceased by his parents and one brother, Michael,and one grandson.Calling hours will be held on Thursday, July 27, 2006, from7 to 9 p.m. at Guare & Sons Funeral Home. A funeral Masswill be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 28, 2006, at St.Augustine Church. Committal prayers will be offeredimmediately after the funeral Mass at Green Mount Cemetery.
