From Kathy A. Ruel, correspondent. The following is a letter writtento Amy Abby Allen on February 24, 1975 by Stella:
Dear Amy, So sorry you have been ill, It would be wonderful to step in to have a chat withyou. I am expecting another grandchild at any hour.It is long overdue. I dare not leave home for verylong. She has 3 other little ones and I seem tobe the Chief one to take over when she is finally rushed tothe hospital. She has a grand husband (withrestricted hours!) How very many times Ma use tospeak about you. You were her favorite niece, I amsure. The world seems to be filled with hernamesakes. she herself, was named after hergrandmother, Amy Sprague Clark. I have herpicture. I do believe you look a bit like her. We are all very fond of Allen. He is such a darlingboy. I shall never forget how faithful he was to goto see Ma when she was ill. Allen is liked byeveryone. He has a really beautiful family too. Ma always used to brag about how good and how pretty her"little Amy" was. You have been a wonderful motherand wife...and today a great grandmother! How timedoes fly. Today I am the last one left in theimmediate family. Even the two old houses on MapleAvenue are no more. Not a trace. It doesn'tseem possible. I thank God for my own family. Paulie, my two daughters and (will-be) 4 grandchildren. Ingoing through Ma's treasures, I find occasional photos ofyou kids. I want to get them copied off forAllen. I wish I had that beautiful picture of yourmother and another one of Uncle John. I believe theywere wedding pictures. I think Ma gave Aunt Allies'picture to Hazel many years ago. Your father was ahandsome young fellow and everyone loved him. He wasalways so good to Ma's own parents, she always said. When my little girl, Amy found out years ago that he wasuncle only by marriage, she was heartbroken. I don'twant to tie you all out with a long rambling letter. Maybe we can get together for a bit of a chat. I amvery anxious to hear how you are. Praying for youalways, Love, Stella.
